Prepare Your Hair for Your Next Look

Your next look begins with the hair beneath it.

While your ZYRA hair is being prepared, use this time to care for your natural hair and plan your installation. Created by our founder, a licensed cosmetologist, this guide helps you prepare thoughtfully for your next look.

Start with your installation plan

Choose your style and confirm your stylist's preparation requirements. A wig, sew-in, and leave-out installation can require different preparation. Wait until your hair arrives and you have checked it before committing to a nonrefundable installation appointment.

Cleanse and condition

Follow a cleansing routine suited to your hair and scalp. Use your usual suitable shampoo and conditioner, rinse thoroughly, and schedule your final wash around your stylist's instructions. Avoid trying unfamiliar treatments immediately before installation.

Detangle with care

Divide your hair into manageable sections. Use fingers or a smooth wide tooth comb with a suitable detangling product, beginning at the ends and working gradually toward the roots. Hold each section gently to reduce pulling. Do not force a comb through knots.

Protect your hair between wash days

Use your satin scarf at night and wear comfortable, low tension styles. Keep your hairline free from pulling. Your sectioning clips help you work through your hair in smaller sections.

Prepare for your chosen installation

Wigs: Discuss a comfortable foundation with your stylist. Braids and caps should not feel tight. If adhesive is planned, follow the installer's instructions and the adhesive manufacturer's directions; avoid heavy product buildup at the application area.

Sew-ins: Ask your stylist how they want your hair cleansed, dried, and prepared. A braid foundation should be secure without pain or excessive tension.

Leave-out: Discuss blending and a manageable maintenance plan with your stylist. Use heat protectant when heat styling and avoid repeated unnecessary heat passes.

Installation day

Hair and scalp should be fully dry before they are enclosed beneath your style. Follow your stylist's agreed preparation instructions. Speak up immediately if installation feels painful or too tight.

If your scalp is sore, irritated, or has open areas, postpone installation and seek appropriate professional care. This general preparation guide does not replace individualized scalp or medical advice.
